Adani Group’s Mundra Becomes 1st Indian Port To Handle 16 MMT In A Month

Mundra, the largest port in India, has achieved another milestone by handling 16.1 million tonnes of cargo in October, the highest ever cargo volume handled by an Indian Port, said the port owner, the Adani Group, in a release.

The port handled 102 MMT of cargo this year and recorded a nine per cent year-on-year growth. It surpassed the 100 MMT mark in just 210 days, beating its record of 231 days in 2022.

The Adani Group also revealed some of the port’s other achievements, such as its double-digit growth on a year-on-year basis for liquid and gas and containers.

It also handled 4.2 million TEUs of containers in 203 days, which it achieved in 225 days in 2022. With its current growth in cargo volume, the port is targeting to handle 200 MMT in the financial year 2025.

The port has also expanded its portfolio by adding new types of cargo like Hydrolysis Pi Gas (HPG).

In 2023, it received over 2480 ships and offered services to over 11,500 rakes. It has great connectivity with the hinterland, especially the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor.

Its strategic location and deep draft can accommodate the world’s biggest ships.

In July, it received one of the biggest ships ever- the MV MSC Hamburg, which measures 339 m lengthwise and 54 m breadthwise and has a carrying capacity of 15,908 TEUs and a 12 m draught.

In 2021, it welcomed the 397.88 m long and 51 m wide APL Raffles, the biggest container ship to call at any Indian port.
