A 22-year-old deck cadet on a merchant ship was reported missing while sailing from Indonesia to Singapore.

The missing cadet, Pranav Karad, has been working with Wilhelmsen Ship Management India Pvt ltd, a US-based office, for the last six months. Karad was reported missing on April 5, 2024.

Pranav’s father, Gopal Karad, said they got a call from the shipping firm’s Mumbai office informing them about the incident.

Search operations are in progress, and attempts are being made to trace Pranav.

Pranav’s father added that they (the Karad family) are attempting to contact the Union administration for assistance. They have also approached the Mumbai and Pune police.

However, the shipping firm did not explain how he went missing from the ship.

According to a Pune police official, Pranav’s family sought them, but they were directed to Mumbai police because the shipping company’s office is in Mumbai.

Gopal Karad, Pranav’s father, further added that the Warje Police accepted their complaint on April 7, 2024.

Pranav holds a degree from a Pune-based maritime educational institute. After a campus interview, he was offered a job with the shipping company six months ago.
